February Nintendo Direct: Mario Kart 8 Gets A Date
It's Nintendo Direct time again, which means there's a whole host of new Ninty related info to get fans excited. Aside from the news of a new challenger in Smash Bros, the Big N also announced eagerly awaited details and showed some brand new footage. There's nothing quite as surprising as Hyrule Warriors this time around, but there's still plenty of things to look forward to.
Probably the most anticipated Nintendo game right now is Mario Kart 8. Previously we've been told it's due in Spring 2014, but we have finally got a more specific date, and it's not too far off. May 30th will see everyone's favourite racer zoom into HD on Wii U for the very first time (in both North America and Europe). That wasn't the only piece of fresh Kart info we got though- we learned that Bowser's offspring the Koopa Kids will be joining the race this time round!
In digital news, Nintendo announced NES Remix 2 will be available this coming April. Also included in that release is a full bonus game Super Luigi Bros- a remake of the classic Mario platformer that is played right to left. They also announced that Game Boy Advance games are coming to the Virtual Console, including Metroid Fusion and Yoshi's Island. Perhaps surprisingly though, they will be coming not to the 3DS but the Wii U VC. GBA games were only made available on 3DS to 'ambassadors' (those who bought the console before the price drop) and there's no sign of this changing any time soon. Nintendo's previously mooted first step into free-to-play was also unveiled in the form of Steel Diver: Sub Wars free version- available for download on 3DS today.
The Nintendo Direct also featured new trailers for some eagerly anticipated Third Party Wii U games in the form of Bayonetta 2 and Monolith's mysterious new RPG.
