Top 5 Best Wii Games of All Time
While the next generation of video game consoles is here, let's not be quick to forget the current generation of video game consoles. The current generation came out with a lot of great games that are worth mentioning. Right now we are going to focus on the Wii. The Wii was really revolutionary when it was first released and came out with tons of games that proved it. This list is comprised of Wii games that I have picked and that I think are the best Wii games of all time. These Wii games really revolutionized the way we play video games.
Of course I have to mention games that are developed and published by Nintendo. Wii Sports came bundled with the Wii and revolutionized the way we play games. No longer did gamers have to just sit on the couch and press buttons. For the first time gamers had to actually get up and move around to play a sports video game. For the first time players had to mimic actions performed in real life sports. I loved that about it and was blown away by it. The game included five sports and has sold over 81 million copies. The game also received critical acclaim and received various awards. The five sports on the game were boxing, tennis, golf, bowling, and baseball. My favorite sports on the game were boxing and tennis. I don't really care for sport games but this one was really easy to play and appealed to people of all ages. Not to mention a very fun game to play. It was one of those games where you knew you had to try it, even if for some reason you didn't have the game, you knew you had to play it at least once.
This Wii game I absolutely loved. In my opinion not only is this one of the best Wii games but one of the best video games of all time. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption executed the Wii controls quite well and sad to say it was hard for me to find a Wii game that did. Not only did the game have excellent game play but it had a great story line with plenty of action. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption takes place after Metroid Prime 2: Echoes but before Metroid II: Return of Samus. Since its release, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has sold over a million copies. If you have not played this Wii game yet I highly recommend that you do. It has stunning visuals, heart stopping action, makes use of the Wii controls beautifully, and definitely the best prime game in the series.
3) The Legend of Zelda:Skyward Sword
There are many Zelda fans that claim this is the best game out of the franchise. While I did love this game and thought it was great, my favorite one is The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Fans of the franchise were fortunate enough to be blessed with two releases for the Wii. In this release Zelda really was the center of the story and wasn't just a princess that needed to be rescued. They really had a close bond since they grew up together. I loved the bond between them because in most of the other games Link wasn't exactly a close friend. In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Zelda actually goes on her own journey of self discovery. This time around the story is more touching and you can almost feel the connection between Link and Zelda. Skyward Sword has been the earliest game yet in the franchise. It even takes place before The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. Besides the story, another great feature of this Wii game is the sword system. The sword system made players feel more a part of the game than before. The motion based sword play was very precise and accurate. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword did not feel like a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It was its own game and was set in the skies. It is no wonder this Wii game has sold over 3 million copies since it was released.
4) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
I am a huge fan of the Zelda franchise of course I am going to list The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in my Top 5 picks. I have good reasons for it though. Twilight Princess is a true Wii classic. This Wii game is a perfect blend of familiar Zelda traits and new ones. Set 100 years after Ocarina of time, Twilight Princess introduces us to a new realm and a new princess. We get introduced to the Twilight realm and Hyrule gets taken over by the King of the Twilight realm. This time link has to save Hyrule and not just the princess Zelda. As a result of trying to save Hyrule, Link gets turned into an animal. All throughout Twilight Princess Link switches back and forth between his human form and his animal form. The story is more advanced this time and darker. Even though the game play is similar to The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, it is enhanced by the Wii motion controls. Thanks to the Wii controls , players find themselves more immersed and more engaged in the game's combat. The Wii remote gave players more accuracy, speed, and really made us feel like just pressing buttons was a thing of the past. The first game in the franchise to receive a teen rating and received a few game of the year awards. It is no wonder it made its way into my number 4 spot of the Best Wii Games of all Time.
5)Mario Kart Wii
I had a hard time choosing the last spot on my list. There are a lot of great Wii games out there that made it hard to come up with this list to begin with. I wasn't sure if this last spot should go to Mario Kart Wii or Super Smash Bros. Brawl. In the end I obviously gave the spot to Mario Kart Wii. Why? The reason being is that fighting games aren't really a challenge for me. I liked SSBB but I got bored with the game after awhile. I got more hours of gaming out Mario Kart Wii and found it more of a challenge. This Wii game was a great mixture of old and new. We got to play online and race people from all over the globe which I loved, new characters were added to the roster such as baby Mario, and we got to ride bikes as well as cars. Another first for gamers besides playing online, gamers no longer had to use buttons to play a racing game. For the first time gamers really felt like they were behind the wheel, thanks to the Wii controls and the steering wheel that was included with the game. I also loved how you could use a GameCube controller as well as the Wii remote in Mario Kart Wii. Apparently I am not the only one who loves this game since it has sold over 35 million copies making it the best selling racing game of all time. With that said it truly deserves a spot in my list.
There you have it, my list of the Top 5 Best Wii Games of All Time. I know pretty much all the games in my list were first party games but I also like tons of third party Wii games too. The Wii games in my list were the ones that stuck out to me the most and were the ones that blew me away more than any others. I also found that the first party Nintendo games made the best use of the Wii controls than third party releases. If you don't agree with any of my picks then what are you waiting for? Go play some Wii games and come up with your own list of Top 5 Best Wii Games of all Time. Let me know what you think the best Wii games are.
