Call of Duty: Semi-Decent and Never Will Achieve Greatness
By popular demand I am going to take a shot at our precious Call of Duty. This blasphemous act is a result of a recent post found here: Halo: The Most Overrated Game Ever Made? (Sidenote: My editor had me include the question mark in this factual statement. Still not sure why.)
The CliffNotes on how we got here: In the article above I name dropped and said CoD is better than Halo. You would think I didn’t kneel in front of the queen, mixed Pepsi with Coke, obeyed the speed limit during rush hour. GAWD!
These Halo fans were up in arms. Offended doesn’t begin to describe the levels of betrayal they felt in their John-117 souls. My only regret is that I didn’t say Bust A Move is better than Halo. To be clear, I'm saying it now. Oh I can hear the Halo-Heads no, “Oh nooo he didn’t!”
I did. Feel free to let me know any other game you think is getting too much special treatment. I'd be glad to talk about.
So what do I think about Call of Duty? Well it’s semi-decent but far from great and here’s why:
Call of Duty goes out of its way to capture the crisp sound of a clip reloading. It makes sure the physics behind a mile away headshot correctly capture the blood splatter pattern on a brick wall. It makes you feel like you’re in a war…well kinda.
The physical hand to hand combat I gotta say is pretty damn weak.
If they really want to take this game to the next level introduce the ability for players to have a slug fest or better yet kick them in the chest causing them to fall from a ten story building. Remember, war isn't just about guns, bombs, and knives, it’s about kicking your sworn enemy in the face.
Who are they trying to fool here?! A lot of readers are going to be turned off by number two. Understandable. I invite you to explore the top 5 disses every gamer should use and abuse and express your emotions in a healthy way. Don't stress, comments are free to post below.
Look, this is a fun game, but the fact is…it’s the same game over and over and OVER again. I dare say the McDonalds of video games. There’s no story or moment about it that is iconic to the series. Let’s be honest, usually when people talk about CoD it’s about the new guns.
Remember all the hype Black Ops received before its release? You would think the game was breaking new ground instead of treading water.
They spent millions on ads making people feel like we didn’t want this game, we NEEDED this game.
I’m surprised Hollywood hasn’t made a movie based on the series yet. I guess give it time. The year is still young. Maybe they could call it, "The Fall of Call of Duty."
No fault is too big or small to forgive in a video game. If it were a movie you’d be pissed. Some of you may even ask for your money back.
Alright you know the drill. Who’s gonna be the first to blow up the comment section below and say, “You’re wrong Kirk!” or my personal favorite “It made millions of dollars how can I say this?!”
Let’s hear it. Like I said with the Halo-Heads, the first step to admitting there's a problem is talking about it.
