Sony Playstation 4's Disc Upgrade Program and recording of game content.
At the Tokyo Game Show 2013, Sony announced that Playstation 4 will allow users to record their game content over HDMI without the need for additional hardware. This way, users will be able to upload the recorded content to Youtube.com and various other sites.
In Playstation 3, users had to use analogue cables to record content, since Playstation 3 used HDCP copy protection over an HDMI connection.
Sony's head of consumer relations, Brad Douglas, tweeted "details will follow soon."
Furthermore, Sony has revealed that select Playstation 3 games will be upgradable for playing on Playstation 4. There are 2 ways to upgrade games; one is executed virtually, while the other is for hard-copies. If you want to purchase a game for Playstation3 which you intend to play on Playstaion 4, you buy the game on Playstation Store , and when you get Playstation 4, you can upgrade that game for only $9.99. Currently, there are only 4 games eligible for this program: Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. As a consequence, these 4 games come with a code, and in order to play these games on Playstation 4, this code will let you buy the digital version of the game for $9.99. The drawback with hard-copies is that the user will have to authenticate the Playstation 3 disc every time it is used for Playstation 4.This service will pragmatically convert Playstation 3 games into Playstation 4 games.
Moreover, this service is only available till 31st January 2014. Hence, users who are not planning on buying the Playstation 4 any time soon, they should upgrade these games, in case their plans change.
According to Sid Schuman, Playstation US' social media manager, only these 4 games have been selected for this program, more may be added.
