Super Smash Bros: Over The Years
Back in the day, there was a particular commercial for a video game that hasn't been seen before on any console and new gameplay. The game was Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64, showing how popular Nintendo characters finally got to duke it out against one another.
Any person that saw the original TV commercial when they were growing up knew that they had to play this game because they had a least one favorite Nintendo character to fight as.
Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 was the first game to bring popular Nintendo characters in one game such as, Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and Pikachu as seen in the TV commercial. This was the perfect way to end the "Who would win?" "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" and so on. There were many combinations of characters to battle against because there were hidden characters to be unlocked after certain conditions or events. Besides Vs. Mode, there was a Story Mode where each character had their own story related to their purpose in the game. Break The Targets was a mode where characters had to break as many targets as they could within a time limit and could set a record.
Super Smash Bros. Melee made its début on the Nintendo Gamecube with improved graphics and more characters were added to the roster. New characters such as Bowser, Dr. Mario, Falco, Ganondorf, Ice Climbers, Marth, Mewtwo, Mr. Game & Watch, Peach, Pichu, Roy, Sheik, Young Link, and Zelda.
