Watch Dogs Demo Video Released
After debuting a closed demo to press at Gamescom last month, Ubisoft has released 14 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay footage of its brand-new, cross-generational IP Watch Dogs.
Take a look at the video below to see the seasoned developer's take on a Grand Theft Auto-style open world. The demo shows off the game's hacking mechanics, constantly evolving world, and seamless multiplayer component.
Keep in mind, this footage all takes place outside of any formal story mission and is completely in-game.
Ubisoft has proven itself a formidable force in the open-world genre with the Assassin's Creed series and, most recently, Game of the Year contender Far Cry 3. Watch Dogs marks a more modern and realistic direction for them, but this video should put any doubts to rest. The mechanics all seem well-designed and easy to handle, taking cues from Rockstar's kingpin Grand Theft Auto series. On top of a reliable minimap and readily available driving mechanics, Watch Dogs borrows an Infamous-like reputation system that influences story moments and random encounters.
The multiplayer component is an interesting evolution of the hunting games debuted in the Assassin's Creed series. Players stalk each other, are given the chance to retaliate, and are rewarded based on stealth as well as success. Though it seems fun, here's hoping there's an off-switch to it. Nothing ruins a dedicated single-player mission like being uprooted to take care of a multiplayer game.
Watch Dogs looks to be one of the most interesting new games coming out this year, and it seems jam-packed with content and gameplay options. Even watching the demo I was momentarily overwhelmed with the possibilities and amount of prompts onscreen. Is there such thing as too much freedom?
We'll have to see when Watch Dogs hits shelves in November.
Watch Dogs releases November 15 on PS4, November 19 on Xbox 360, Wii U, PS3, and PC, and November 22 on XboxOne.
