Voice Acting in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
The Assassin's Creed team released this video insider on the voice actors of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
Check out interviews with the actors bringing Edward Kenway, Charles Vane, and the infamous pirate Blackbeard to life below, and take a look at 13-minutes of open-world Assassin's Creed gameplay for more on the next installment in Ubisoft's blockbuster franchise.
Many fans (myself included) were disappointed in Edward's grandson Connor Kenway, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed 3. After spending so much time with Ezio in his trio of games (Assasssin's Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Revelations), Connor felt flat and one-dimensional. This glance into the lively characters of Black Flag seems to put those fears to rest.
It looks like this entry in the action-adventure series has put a renewed focus on unique storytelling and relationships, rather than just trying to shoehorn as many historical events into one game as possible.
It's also great to see some strong talent putting their voices to work. Both Ralph Ineson (Charles Vane) and Matt Ryan (Edward) have some impressive film and television credits to their reels, including Harry Potter and Game of Thrones (Ineson), and Layer Cake and Criminal Minds (Ryan). Voice acting in video games can often make or break a story experience, and it looks like Ubisoft Montreal's creative director Jean Gudson understands that.
What do you think? Does this help get you excited for the sixth game in this constantly changing franchise?
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag releases October 29, 2013 for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC in North America and November 1, 2013 in Europe. Xbox One and Playstation 4 will be getting releases at a later date.
