Games That Need An HD Remake

Games That Need An HD Remake
Deus Ex Deus Ex: Invisible War Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic And More

Over the last few years gamers have seen an influx of HD remakes hit the market from the upcoming Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMix and the anniversary edition of the original Fable to the Metal Gear HD Collection and Silent Hill HD Collection. This trend is bringing many of the great older games back and exposing them to gamers that missed them when originally released. There are several older games that should be given HD remakes in my opinion and I'm actually surprised they haven't been given one yet. Here are the top 3 games that I think should be given HD remakes.

1. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

When this game was released back in 2003 it received rave reviews and many awards that were well deserved. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR for short) is, in my personal opinion, by far the best game set in the Star Wars universe hands down. It introduced some very iconic characters to the Star Wars universe, especially Darth Revan who is now one of the most influential characters from the era before /Darth Vader and Darth Sidious. This is the game that put Bioware on the map as far as console games go but since this games was only available on PC and the original Xbox there are many out there who never got to experience what is the best Star Wars experience since the Original Trilogy. An HD remake could put KOTOR in the hands of many new gamers and those that have already played it, especially since the original won over 100 awards including many GOTY awards and sold over 1 million copies it is worth some serious consideration for an HD remake.

2. Deus Ex

The commercial and critical success of 2011's Deus Ex: Human Revolution just begs to have the original be re-released as an HD remake. The 2011 installment is actually a prequel to the original Deus Ex which was released in 2000 for PC with a port to the PS2 released in 2002. This game is still considered one of the best PC games ever and won numerous awards and praise since it's release. This first installment in this franchise is not a game that many console gamers are familiar with and there are many that don't even know that there are other games in the Deus Ex universe besides Human Revolution and this should be remedied because while I love Human Revolution the original blows it out of the water and was the game that influenced so many great games of the last 2 generations. Many of the themes and plots in the original carry over into the both the sequel and the prequel. The conspiracies and philosophical questions that made Human Revolution so successful started here and would resonate just as much today as they did back in 2000. This game, more than any almost any other game deserve the exposure that an HD remake would give to the game that kicked off one my favorite video game franchises.

3. Deus Ex Invisible War

While this 2003 game is not as loved by fans as the original Deus Ex is, Deus Ex Invisible War is one of my favorite games of all time and one of only 2 games I was upset about not being made backwards compatible for the 360. Being a console exclusive for the original Xbox and a PC game really limited the audience this game was exposed to when it was released. In fact, I only know a couple of people who have played either of the first 2 installments of this franchise but especially Invisible War. An HD remake would give this game the exposure to console gamers that it deserves. I know I would be all over it and I'm sure many of the gamers who played Human Revolution would as well.

These 3 games are in my opinion the most deserving of HD remakes out there and for me even more deserving than the original Fable or Kingdom Hearts. So fellow gamers let me know what you think about these games getting HD remakes or even what game (s) you think are most deserving of HD remakes.

    Legend of Dragoon!
That game was beyond amazing, though not very popular.

I wish it would happen, doubt it ever will.

I recently bought KOTOR on steam so that I had a game I could play on my laptop in times where wifi is scarce. I had the same thought! KOTOR is such an amazing game; the story, the skills, the force powers..Everything was (and still is) perfect, but playing games with 2003 quality graphics always comes with a certain subtle urge for a nice HD remake!

Everything about KOTOR is still awesome to me except the graphics, which are 10 years out of date now. It doesn’t even fill the entire screen on my HDTV when I play it so I would be all for them doing an HD remake just for the updated graphics. Now I wouldn’t complain if they wanted to overhaul the combat system or dialogue or anything like that as long as they left the story alone because it would still be an amazing game.

I’d love to see a legitimate, completed version of KOTOR II in HD. That game had a lot of upside until it fell apart at the end.

I agree with you on KOTOR.

I would kill to see Hideo Kojima create another HD remake of the first Metal Gear Solid… Yeah there was that Twin Snakes one — But that was the GameCube.

Metal Gear Solid has got to be the best of the MG series. It would be epic to play it on a PS4 with up to date game play mechanics.

Plus it’s the only MGS game without an HD remake…
