Debut Sonic Lost World Trailer Zooms In

In the most recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo Global President Satoru Iwata announced that Nintendo were entering an exclusive partnership with their one time mortal enemy Sega. In a move that would make 90's kid's heads explode, the forthcoming Sonic The Hedgehog game will be exclusive to Nintendo consoles.

Alongside a new installment of the Mario and Sonic At the Olympic Games series, to tie in with the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, a brand new 3D Sonic adventure Sonic Lost World was announced for Wii U and 3DS. We now can have our first proper look at the game, as the first trailer has made it's way online.

The trailer shows the speedy critter in action in some very colourful in-game footage and reveals a 2013 release date.  Sonic's transition to three dimensions has not been entirely successful, and has been known to produce some stinkers (*cough* Sonic 2006, *cough*). There's enough here however to give hope this might be one of their better efforts so far.  Luckily it looks like Sega might have been taking inspiration from their old rivals- as the trailer is drawing comparsions with Mario Galaxy , and even made me think of Super Mario 3d Land in places. With a new 3D Mario set to be unveiled at E3, it looks like 2013 could be a good year for platformer fans to pick up a Wii U!

Sonic fans! What do you think? Does this look like a return to form for the ol' Hog, or should he stick to two dimensions?
